A letter from the President of Ardwood Civic

Happy 2017 to all! We hope everyone has enjoyed a peaceful holiday season. 2017 will be an exciting year for Ardmore and Wynnewood. Our Civic is actively working to represent our interests as a community. In Real Estate development, 2017 sees the prospective renovation of 205 E Athens Avenue, a Class II historic home currently being used as a multi-family dwelling. The new owner has plans to keep the historic character, renovating and removing non-contributing elements while adding new space in the rear. This will create higher-end apartments. ArdWood supports this as it maintains the community character and preserves a historic building. ArdWood continues to work with Lower Merion Township and The Lower Merion Conservancy to create a Historic District that will preserve many lovely historic homes and deter commercial encroachment.

We’re also seeing other re-developments in the neighborhood. Outside our Civic boundaries major developments are underway - new townhomes and twins on the corner of Cricket & Spring have broken ground, there are plans for the Cricket Lot (Dranoff) and the land across the street by the Auto Repair garage. Lastly, new plans are in process for the lot at the corner of Ardmore Ave & Lancaster. ArdWood is engaged in all of these as our neighborhood will feel the impact of reduced parking and road closures.

In the Education front, ArdWood is watching carefully discussions among LMSD officials and School Board members regarding enrollment and school crowding. We are urging the District to continue finding creative solutions to the increased enrollment that do not involve new construction or redistricting. So far the ‘sister school’ program has been instituted as well as plans for temporary classrooms at Bala Cynwyd MS.

ArdWood maintains an active Facebook page where local community events are promoted, everything from Coffee with a Cop to Sips for the Park. We also provide information on local services such as paper shredding events, electronics recycling and hazardous waste disposal events.

Please join us in 2017. Membership dues are reasonable, and you can renew or join using the form on the back side of this page. We welcome residents who wish to join committees and participate in Civic leadership. All are welcome at our meetings, held at the Household of Faith Deliverance Worship Center on the corner of Athens & Linwood Roads.

Have a happy and successful 2017!
